What to Know Before Installing a Sauna at Home

Measure and photograph the proposed space
Record width, depth and ceiling height at the narrowest points. Note beams, sloping ceilings, doors and windows. Photograph the room and the route from the delivery point so access can be considered alongside the design.
Do not use every available centimetre for benches. Heater clearances, maintenance access and safe entry need to be considered against the chosen equipment instructions.
Agree who prepares the room
A sauna installer, builder and electrician may each have a role. Set out responsibility for the floor, wall and ceiling construction, insulation, ventilation openings and electrical work. Agree the sequence so finished surfaces do not have to be reopened.
Where you rent, own a leasehold property or share building services, investigate permissions before purchasing equipment.
Choose equipment as a system
Heater capacity, controls, sensors and room materials need to be considered together. The manufacturer's room-sizing guidance is more useful than selecting a heater solely by a sales description.
Supply requirements and vent arrangements are equipment-specific. Ask qualified professionals to assess them rather than treating online advice as an installation diagram.
Keep a handover checklist
Ask how to operate the controls, what routine care is needed, which documents will be supplied and how to report a fault. Keep equipment model details with the instructions.
Your initial enquiry should include your postcode, intended usage, photographs, dimensions and desired timeframe. This helps an installer identify what must be checked on site.
